2024-2025 Job opening with the Tetra String Quartet


Job Title: Violist/Teaching Artist/Co-Artistic Director (Download posting HERE)

Job Description: The Tetra String Quartet is seeking a highly skilled and experienced viola player to join the ensemble as a performer, teaching artist and co-artistic director. Responsibilities:

  • Perform viola in the Tetra String Quartet, including all concerts, rehearsals, school residencies, community outreach, and recordings

  • Teach chamber music ensembles for students of ages 10-18 at the Tetra Chamber Music Institute and in school residencies

  • Develop and implement new educational outreach programs and initiatives for the string quartet

  • Assist with the administrative duties of the string quartet, such as scheduling, marketing, and fundraising

  • Participate in all weekly administrative meetings and monthly board meetings

  • Morning rehearsals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Tetra Chamber Music Institute Tuesday evenings 4-8:30pm

Emphasis on teaching chamber music:

In addition to the above responsibilities, the ideal candidate will have a strong interest in teaching chamber music. This may involve teaching students how to play together in a small ensemble, coaching students on their chamber music repertoire, and developing new chamber music programs and initiatives for the organization. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate their own commitment to chamber music through their performance experience and teaching philosophy.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in viola or violin performance or a related field

  • 3+ years of experience performing in a professional ensemble setting

  • 2+ years of experience teaching viola

  • 2+ years of group teaching experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Previous experience in community outreach programs and a strong background in public speaking; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience to be determined by department

Other desirable qualifications: 

  • Non-profit organization experience

  • Experience serving on a board of directors

  • Fundraising and marketing experience 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • This is a part-time position, based in Phoenix, Arizona. The start date is negotiable.
